Work & Power
Work Done
Work is done when a force moves an object through a distance in the direction of the force. Work done is equal to energy transferred.
W = F × d
Power
Power is the rate of doing work (or the rate of energy transfer). It is measured in watts (W). 1 watt = 1 joule per second.
P = W / t = E / t
Key Points
- Work done = force × distance (in direction of force)
- Power = work done ÷ time
- 1 W = 1 J/s
- Work done = energy transferred
Exam Tips
- Ensure the force and distance are in the same direction
- Convert kW to W (×1000) before calculating
